Every four years since 1963, a small group of students has traveled to New York City, with University funds, to purchase art for Wake Forest’s Student Union art collection. They are charged with choosing works that reflect the times.

This summer, Hamtramckan Chris Schneider and myself explored several midwestern states, to photograph the small towns and rural landscapes of the often-overlooked American heartland. Partially funded by a grant from Detroit’s Red Bull House of Art, we visited eight states, and stopped in over 50 towns.

Using photographs from his grandma he reveals the layers of history, life, and love that exist in Warrenton, NC. JBarber and Rashaun reminisce about living in rural North Carolina and get into all the printmaking nitty-gritty details.

Kenny Karpov's book, A Small Corner of Hell, conveys on one hand a harsh reveal of a refugee crisis and yet, on another, an intimate journey in a new perspective; a fresh visual approach.
